The way forward for me ....

Yes for anyone that knows me this is truly a feat.

I've had a fear of computers and technology for a long time ( I think Terminator must have frightened the life out of me as a kid !! ).

But now I'm here and I'm telling the world about my latest path to fame and fortune. Novella's !!

I'm a writer who can't draw. I've wanted to do comics for a long time but trying to find artists to commit is a nuiscance as these guys usually are trying to make a living doing something else at the same time.

I would love to think I have a novel in me but I know I would probably dream up another cool character half way through writing it and would want to devote my time to that one, So novella's are the way forward for me !!

I've recently been in touch with 2 very good friends of mine, by the names of Marc Olivent and Mal Earl. These guys have set me back on the road to putting something in print and making this my year.

I will try and keep you up to date on this blog and let you know how things are going and I would appreciate any comments as I go along.

Thanks for listening

Scott

Good luck with the novellas, Scott.

When you're ready to start sending samples out to publishers you may find this site of use:

One thing you may find of use is working in several mediums at once (for example, whilst working on the novellas, also write and send out a few comic scripts to artists). That way, whilst the artists are working on the scripts you won't feel so much like you're waiting around for them, as you'll still be active with the novella writing.

Thanks Dave, good suggestions. That's pretty much what I'm doing. Fingers crossed !

So now 24 pages in ! slowed a bit but want to get the tone of the story right. Enjoying it but don't want to get too hung up on being picky with it. It's a project / hobby after all. Totally different from writing a comic script.

It's definitely best not to get picky with the first draft - plough away with it until the end, and then get down to the redrafting process.

I made the mistake of stopping to think about where the story was going when writing a novel, just as I reached the half way point. It's been several years now, and I still haven't been able to get back into writing the darned thing. Keeping the momentum going whilst it's there is the key thing, I'd say.

24 pages is definitely a good start!

Up to 30 pages. I should stress at this point that I'm writing it the old fashioned way. Pen and paper ! why ? Because I can write faster than I can type so hopefully it will be finished in a couple of weeks - but it might take me several months to type !! ha ha ha!

Up to 30 pages already, your doing well, go with the flow. I know what you mean about the typing up, I'm still having trouble with that part myself, but my scribbles look good.

nearly 40 pages done and 5 typed up ( ha ha ha!! ) getting down to the conclusion of the story now. It may be shorter or longer than 60 pages I'm not sure how it will turn out when fully typed but anyway this is a start and a good way to prove to myself that it can be done - i just need to push myself that bit more.
