Okay, just got time for a few quick comments on the latest issue of the Temple (feel free to add your comments/feedback here, folks).
Firstly, I thought it was definitely the best issue yet; not just because it was the biggest, but the sheer variety and quality of work was impressive.
The biggest highlight was seeing the work of three new contributors, so a hearty welcome to Steve Tanner, Andrew Dodd and Thomas Crielly. The Timb Bomb comic sample showing Steve and Andrew's early work was really enjoyable stuff. Such a great variety of art styles contained in one strip - it reminded me at times of Frazer Irvin's art.
The superhero art by Thomas was very dynamic stuff, and I always enjoy a good zombie pic.
Adam Grose' artwork for the Choices anthology is definitely the best I've seen from him. Especially the latter pages, which had a great deal of depth to them in the surrounding scenery. The other upcoming Insomnia strip (the name of which escapes me) looks like it's progressing well. I felt the original 'Kabooom!' SFX on the pencilled page works a lot better than the 'Boommmmm' SFX on the final page (the boom might work better if you put in more o's and less m's (eg 'booooooom!'). A very small and niggling comment, I know!
Nice to see some brand new Headcheeze designs from John Kirkham, and also thanks for helping with the accent uk layouts and headers. The front cover was a great piece of design work, as was the contents page.
Malcolm Kirk delivered another well thought out contribution. I like the way your sections have a kind of 'pull-out supplement' feel to them.
Paul Eldridge - The Green Latrine was a great pin-up (I'm still waiting for the Silent But Deadly monk one...) and the RUbbernorc/Watchmen strip works nicely, and uses the 3d artwork to maximum comic effect. Very inventive way of parodying a strip, and the punchline works well.
Dave Thomson's Durham Red picture was a very professional looking piece; beautifully coloured! I look forward to writing something action packed for you once the MA's out my way (just two weeks to go!).
Tony Suleri - it impresses me that your colouring style is as individual as your art style. The Marren Kane pic looked terrific, and the brain in a jar with a hat is a character that I'm eager to give words to once you've done the pictures.
Simon Mackie - great to see Pinkie again. The strip has a very nice cirular feel, and achieves a lot in just two pages.
Paul Harrison-Davies. Love the Slade pic - it captures the feel of the characters very nicely, especially good ol' Hoagey. Your Huzzah strip work is coming along nicely. I love the complete difference between styles used for Noir and the Superhero strip.
Jim Stewart - ah, another good taste offering! Nice to see Ganjaman getting in touch with his feminine side.
Michael Crouch - I found the Kinder Scout strip a very informative read. The Miss Marples parody is a concept that I'm fairly sure appeared in a sketch show at some point (though I think it was a send up of Murder She Wrote, or something), but the way you handle the idea artistically works really nicely. I always had my suspicions about that interfering old bag.
